Regional Economic Significance
Gold Coast Airport is a major source of employment in the Gold Coast and Tweed regions with more than 750 people directly employed in airport related industries. The National Centre for Tourism estimates that annual expenditure in the Gold Coast / Tweed regions, derived from visitors using Gold Coast Airport, is in the order of $820 million. Direct and indirect employment generated by the airport is estimated at 7,900 full time equivalent positions.

Gold Coast Airport Marathon

Celebrate 30 years of the Gold Coast Airport Marathon on Sunday 6 July 2008. More than 16,000 people from around the world will ‘Embrace The Next Step’ and participate in either the 42.2km Marathon, 21.1km Half Marathon, 10km Run, 7.5km Walk or Junior Dash races for the kids over 2.25km and 4km.

Regarded as the premier distance running event in Australia, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon is recognised worldwide for its fast, flat and scenic course alongside the magnificent Broadwater and sparkling Pacific Ocean. With thousands of spectators lining the course and roving musicians and entertainers creating an amazing atmosphere, this is an event experience not to be missed!

Gold Coast Airport Tweed Business Excellence Awards:

Wintersun Festival
Gold Coast Airport is a major sponsor of the Wintersun Festival for the next three years. The Wintersun Festival is the single most important event held in the Coolangatta Tweed Heads area, and Gold Coast Airport is committed to ensuring it remains in its current location.

The Wintersun Festival is held in May/June each year.

Gold Coast Airport Galaxy of Stars
Gold Coast Airport commenced sponsorship of the Gold Coast Airport Galaxy of Stars in 2004. This is the Rotary Club of Coolangatta Tweed Heads major fundraiser for the year. The Cabaret style concert generates funding for local non-profit organisations with beneficiaries including: RACQ Careflight, Tweed Valley Early Childhood Intervention Centre, Camp Quality and the Coolangatta Special School Farm.
