Runway Extension Complete

Gold Coast Airport’s runway extension is now complete!

The new runway will enable all aircraft types (except for the Airbus A380) to land and take off to international destinations. In particular the B787, B767, B777, A330 and A340 aircraft types.

Gold Coast Airport is the closest airport to the Gold Coast destination and is Australia’s first dedicated low cost international airport. The airport offers a resort style terminal facility with cost saving operational efficiences and has a focus on partnering with airlines to grow
profitable, long term business.

Gold Coast Airport's Aviation operations are comprised of the following:

Overview
Gold Coast Airport is located in a unique position with the Queensland and New South Wales state border cutting straight through its runway. The airport is three kilometres northwest of the border towns of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads and is less than 1 kilometre away from the South Pacific Ocean.

Gold Coast Airport currently services the coastal region extending from Beenleigh in the north to Ballina in the south.
The aerodrome primarily serves the Gold Coast/Tweed tourism industry with leisure-based travel accounting for an estimated 75% of all regular public transport (RPT) traffic.

The Airport
The main runway (14/32) aligned at 139 degrees (M) is 2492 x 45 metres and lies within a 2552 x 150 metre runway strip. The intersecting secondary runway (17/35) is 582 x 18 metres in a 672 x 90 metre runway strip and is aligned at 173 degrees (M). Take off and approach surfaces to the southeast on the main runway meet desirable gradients but obstructions to the northwest limit the take off run available in that direction and a curved path may be used. Approaches to the secondary runway are satisfactory.

A high strength parallel taxiway provides access to the main runway over some 2000 metres of its length. This is supplemented by 506 metres of parallel taxiway for light aircraft use only.

Currently the main RPT apron can accommodate the following range of independent free moving aircraft using power in power out operations:

	9	B737/A320
or	2	wide bodied (A300 and B767) Aircraft plus
	5	B737/A320

As of the 1st of July, all RPT apron parking positing will be accommodated by power in pushback operations, with the following range of parking measures:

or	2	wide bodied (A300 and B767) Aircraft plus
	5	B737/A320

Further positions are available on the Terminal 3 apron for up to 2 aircraft of Boeing B737 size, or and arrangement of six corporate type aircraft.

Additionally the aerodrome has some 3.8 hectares of sealed apron available for use by light aircraft.

Lighting and navigational aids in existence on the aerodrome include runway and taxiway lights, T-VASIS, RTILs, VOR, NDB, DME (I) and Terminal Area Radar.
